There will be no old-pals act between Turriff United goalkeeper Kevin Main and his former Buckie Thistle team-mate Paul Lamberton today when the latter takes his Rothes side to the Haughs on Highland League business.
The pair were the first names on the Jags’ team-lines for years but Main knows their friendship counts for nothing today.
Main, who works in roofing, said: “Lambie and I are the best of friends. I have known him since I arrived at Victoria Park 12 years ago. I played with him for eight seasons and I also turned out in his testimonial game.
“He will be hurting after the 9-0 defeat by Nairn County last Saturday. As a former defender he likes to keep clean sheets.
“We want to pick up as many points as we can before the end of the season and build on that excellent 3-1 win at Inverurie Locos on Wednesday and I would like to think we can boost our goal difference this weekend by me keeping a clean sheet and, hopefully, United scoring a few.”
Lamberton said: “Kevin has been the top goalkeeper in the league for the last 10 years. We are finding it hard enough to score as it is, let alone against someone of Kevin’s quality. However, all the pressure is on them.”
League leaders Brora Rangers welcome Lossiemouth to Dudgeon Park. Brora manager Davie Kirkwood said: “The pressure is on with seven games to go. We need at least five wins but we have a tough run coming up. After Lossie, we’ve got Formartine, Nairn, Turriff then Wick.”
Brora defender Colin Williamson is expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering a broken collarbone at Wick. Lossie have 11 players either injured or unavailable.
