Saturday was another one of those rollercoaster 90 minutes that we have witnessed all too often this season following the Maroons.
Nairn did just about enough to deserve all three points but there was plenty opportunity for a totally different outcome.
With a strong wind at our backs we were able to dominate the play in the first half. Nairn were unable to get past our newly re-inforced rearguard and failed to create any chances. Stuart Massie’s great strike from 20 yards was fantastically tipped over the bar by the Nairn keeper then just on the stroke of halftime, Michael Dunn’s header went inches past the post.
We struggled playing into the wind during the second half and conceded sloppy goals at the back post for Nairn’s first and third.
Their second goal though, was absolutely stunning! A dipping, swerving, 25 yard volley from Duncanson which was unstoppable.
In between all of that we scored a really well worked goal of our own. Bruce Milne, who has been a revelation since he moved into midfield, played a lovely ball down the touchline for Michael Ewen to control and drive into the bow before firing into the back of the net.
Ok, it proved to only be a consolation, but its obvious that the team performances are so much more positive than this time last year.
Nairn County were clearly relieved to head back up the A96 with the win. We were able to match a very expensively formed squad and only just missed out on getting something from the game.
I’m very much excited about the future for this young, talented team!
