Turriff United forward Gary McGowan is confident there will be no cup hangover when his side travels to face Inverurie Locos at Harlaw Park today.
United were knocked out of the Aberdeenshire Cup quarter-finals in a penalty shootout by Cove Rangers at the Haughs on Wednesday and the 30-year-old Aberdeen joiner said: “We have quite a young squad, and I expect the players to recover pretty quickly.
“We also have quite a big squad this season so if changes need to be made the players who come in will be of a good standard and keen to show the manager what they can do.
“We did brilliantly to get back into the game against Cove with two goals in the last three minutes to make it 2-2. We showed great character at 2-0 down with time running out.”
Turriff were the best of the rest behind champions Brora last season and hopes of another title tilt will be tested this afternoon.
Former Huntly and Deveronvale McGowan attacker added: “We know Locos will be a tough nut to crack, they are always going to be a top-six team and have good players.”
Locos co-manager, Kenny Coull, said: “It’s going to as difficult a match as we have had this season.
“Turriff finished runners-up to Brora last season and have started this season well, taking full points from their first three league matches.
“We are still missing a few key players, including wide midfielder John Maitland, so we will have a reshuffle.
“Confidence is pretty high, we have started the season well and have won four games out of five.”
