Imagine having the temerity to score against invincible Brora Rangers in their own back yard after only five minutes?
Well, that’s what Keith did on Saturday, and although we ended up losing 4-1 we gave a pretty good account of ourselves. When Bruce Milne rattled the old onion bag, we thought blimey did we just witness that?!
They have been scoring goals for fun already this season, but we gave them a fair fleg in the first half – it took a goal of the season contender from Andrew Greig to edge them ahead after he had equalised earlier, and although Zander Sutherland also grabbed two, one with two minutes left, we took the game to them.
Mind you they are still the team to beat this season, they are strong, powerful, quick as well being expensive, and carry a lot of goal threat.
As far as Keith’s early season form goes, I think we have fared not too badly, in recent outings we have faced Cove, Locos and Brora, all top sides, and not been over-run.
Our defence has tightened up considerably, with Michael Ralton and Michael Dunn making a huge difference right at the heart, with Daniel Bell proving to be a top goalie, something Keith have always had during their long and proud history.
We could maybe do with something additionally in midfield, although young Hamish Ritchie and Scott Whelan have done really well. Goals haven’t quite been flowing yet, but plenty of chances have been created, so I’m sure that Michael Ewen and Kris Duncan will start netting sooner rather than later.
I was disappointed to read one of the Highland League roundups in a Sunday newspaper that stated that Brora crushed Keith 4-1! That either came from somebody who wasn’t at the game, or was at the game but wasn’t paying proper attention, because Keith were not crushed!
On the subject of coverage, can somebody tell me what has happened to Moray Firth Radio’s coverage of the Highland League, or lack of it as it now seems? No audio reports or updates on when somebody has scored and the scorer’s name.
