It was a bad day at the office for Maroons fans at Turra when the men from the Haughs hit us for six.
They are a good side and quite rightly regarded as one of the title chasing sides. It’s the first time this season that one of the championship challengers have really thumped us as we gave Brora, Cove and Formartine tough games in recent weeks.
To be fair to our boys though, the stretchering off of Michael Dunn didn’t help our cause. He has been a cornerstone in our defence since his move from Rothes earlier this year, and this season so far he has been a tower at the back. It might also have been interesting had Kris Duncan’s penalty been converted, but it wasn’t the best of kicks to be honest. “Baker” has been a revelation however since his summer move from Forres, and in recent outings he has been a real buzzbomb.
Our young lads continue to gain experience with Greg Smith, Hamish Ritchie and loanee Sam Pugh all performing well recently, and that can only be a good thing. We don’t all have a pot of money to dip into and our youth policy has borne fruit several times in recent years, and hopefully will continue to do so.
It’s Scottish Cup time against this coming week ,and the Kynoch Park faithful are looking forward to the visit of Inverurie Locos on Saturday. They should start as favourites, but they won’t be overly confident methinks as they haven’t been setting the heather on fire. I can’t believe it’s 11 years since we last met in the Scottish Cup – 20 November 2004 to be exact, when the mighty Maroons won 2-1 at Harlaw Park with Dean Donaldson and a Kenny McKenzie penalty doing the needful in the first round.
