It’s hard not to dream especially when you’re top of the league with a quarter of it completed.
Yes it’s too early to be at all confident but there are some signs that we have got more going for us now than we’ve ever had in our time in SHFL.
The game against the Broch was an absolute stonker for Formartine fans. As I saw it, Broch were the hardest team to break down that we have faced this season. They were not only on a high after beating the hitherto unbeaten Cove through the week but were also well up for a bit of revenge. Not only had we nicked their manager, assistant, fitness coach, goalie coach and Scott Barbour but had replaced them as the last team to take three points away from Dudgeon Park. You can’t pretend that some sort of revenge wasn’t on their minds – and they played like it was too.
Oh how they wanted to win that one. So did we.
The fact that we not only stood up to it and plugged away for the full 90 minutes reveals a depth of character that is stronger than before.
That Cammy Keith goal with two minutes to go was hardly a thing of carefully crafted elegance but a sneaky striker’s goal right at the death has its own sort of beauty.
Last week we won by fighting fire with fire; on Saturday we did it by grimly grinding out a result against a team that resisted everything for 88 minutes.
Championship contenders need a repertoire of winning ways and we are just beginning to show that. Still early doors, still dreaming but if we can get a result like that against Cove, then the dream will begin just to move towards optimism.
