Strathspey Thistle’s half-time lead counted for nothing as they were eliminated from the Scottish Cup by Edinburgh University.
It all started so well for the Jags. They were on top in the first half and got their reward in the 39th minute when teenager Josh Peters notched his seventh goal of the season with a low drive, but a second-half double in the 56th and 76th minute from Jack Guthrie saw the students progress.
Jags manager Brian Grant said: “We just didn’t come out and compete in the second half.
“We played very well in the first half and we deserved our lead at the interval.
“I have no idea what happened in the second half.
“I wish I could explain what happened as Edinburgh University upped their game.
“It was as if we had swapped teams at half-time and it looks as if we lacked that wee bit of experience in the big cup competition.
“Perhaps we were also lacking an experienced player who could put his foot on the ball and slow it down a bit, but we’ll learn from this.”
