Buckie Thistle marched through to the second round of the Scottish Cup with a seven-goal hammering of fellow Highland League side Rothes at Victoria Park.
Jags manager Graeme Stewart was delighted with his team’s display, saying: “It was a good performance and probably the best we have passed the ball this season.
“The key was getting the early goal and after that we took control. They kept coming at us which gave us some space to play. We are on a good run just now and have won seven out of eight games so need to keep that form going.”
Chris Angus got the home side off to a flier with two goals in the opening 15 minutes. The first came after a ball from Kevin Fraser was controlled and volleyed home by Angus, then he slotted home a long pass from Jamie Fraser for his second.
Dennis Wyness soon got in on the act when he tapped home number three before he sidestepped two defenders to fire home his second and Buckie’s fourth four minutes from the break.
Lewis Mackinnon rifled home number five from another Fraser assist in the 45th minute to put the Jags in control at the break.
Substitute Robert Scott grabbed Buckie’s sixth goal from a Fraser cutback in the 65th minute and fellow substitute Donnie Munro smashed home the seventh from 25 yards to complete the scoring.
