It hasn’t been the best of times recently for Keith fans, what with key defender Michael Dunn being out long term, being on the end of some heavy defeats, and manager Gordon Winton calling time on his position at Kynoch Park.
Anyway, they were dancing on the Balloch Road terraces on Saturday after Deveronvale were put the sword for the first time since March 2007 at the “Field of Dreams”.
Attendances have been pretty droll at Kynoch Park of late, but an influx of females attending a special Ladies Day in the club’s Sponsors Lounge added greatly to the atmosphere, as caretaker boss Jim Stables deservedly led his troops to a 2-0 win.
The Maroons looked eager, sharp and battled throughout, something which of course they will need to do to try and win favour with the new manager when he comes on board.
Apart from being a fine team performance, several individuals did their chances no harm at all. Local lad Scott Johnston made his first start as number nine and more than paid his way, whilst Michael Ewen looked eager for goals again, whilst defensively we looked more tight than of late, and battled bravely in midfield.
Mind you, we have some tough games coming up, both away from home. Firstly a midweek trip to Wick Academy, yes that’s right – sheer madness! Then a hard game at Lossie where Charlie Charlesworth has made his mark once again. Both games are winnable but it’s going to be a real test of character.
