Too soon perhaps to hope for the dawn of a new era, but there were encouraging signs for the Kynoch Park faithfull as Allan Hale got his tenure as Keith manager out of the blocks with a hard earned win against Rothes.
I’ll tell you what though, the Speysiders won’t be at the foot of the table for too long if they keep playing like that, and it is only a matter of time surely before they win their first game of the season.
New boy Hale will take time to assess his whole squad I’m sure, but there were more pluses than minuses on Saturday. Sure, we lost two soft goals, and seemed to run out of steam for a spell before reviving again, but we looked sharper, more eager and keen to chase and harry.
All three goals we notched were onion bag bulgers that had you on your feet, especially Michael Ewen’s strike. He has been one of the North’s top strikers for several years now, and on Saturday we had a real glimpse of just why that is the case.
Although we are still in 12th place, the last two wins have hauled us right up to breathing down the necks of five or six other clubs.
What we now need is the same application in each game, and also to try and eradicate that annoying trait of losing silly, avoidable goals. One note for you statisticians out there, it was Keith’s 13th successive home league win against the Speysiders.
Tough game coming up next Saturday at Buckie though, so more of same desire to win will be needed in abundance.
