Travelling up to Lossiemouth on Saturday I knew, with there only being 10 SHFL fixtures remaining, that only three points would do if Inverurie’s outside chance of a top four position was to be kept alive.
On arrival I was thankful that the forecasted double digit temperatures came to fruition, which allowed for the majority of North footballs league fixtures to go ahead.
The match itself was not a thing of beauty, it was largely forgettable and was definitely a case of ‘winning ugly’, however managing to win at Grant Park is never an easy task and credit is due for the battling performance.
It was especially important for the team to get a win to keep the pressure on local rivals Turriff who are now only three points away after losing to Brora at the weekend.
As a result of our league fixtures having to be completed by mid-April it will be inevitable that there will be some periods of inactivity and blank weekends ahead, however there is some exciting potential rewards if the Locos can edge out the competition and make it into the top four, with the reward being a place in next seasons Petrofac Cup.
This coupled with two exciting cup ties coming ahead on Tuesday, March 2nd against Fraserburgh in the Aberdeenshire Sheild Semi-Final, and on the Saturday, March, 6th in the League Cup versus Brora, mean that there is still plenty to play for this season.
I noted last week that the Locos announced they are hosting a schoolboy international tie between Scotland and Wales on Thursday March 24th which should be a great occasion under the floodlights at Harlaw Park.
Hopefully the Locos can continue their good recent form and make it six wins in six next week in our game against Rothes at home.
