Keith are proud of their record of having won the Highland League cup more times than anybody else – an incredible TEN times, so it was doubly disappointing that we lost out at Station Park against Nairn County.
Two unstoppable goals did the damage, but if truth be known, had the Maroons capitalised on chances carved out then they would have been in the hat for the next round.
It wasn’t to be though, but Keith fans can surely look forward to better days as Alan Hale shapes a squad more than capable of being in the top half of the table.
They obviously work hard in training, and looking on, they appear to be a squad of players that gets on well together. Some of their passing movement and awareness is good to watch and on another day, they would surely have emerged victorious.
The fight and commitment is there, and when Nairn had the upper hand for 10-15 minute spell after half-time, the lads didn’t fold and rolled up the sleeves and took control, which was heartening to see, as in the runaway win at Huntly when the Strathbogie threatened to come back into the game at one point.
Conor Gethins and Alan Pollock nabbed two marvellous goals to sew up the Nairn win, so no pot of gold this season for a team that has been League Cup finalists in seven successive decades, surely quite a unique record.
