Man alive – anyone coming into Kynoch Park as a neutral would not have known who was title challengers and who wasn’t on Saturday. Football can be a cruel business sometimes – even in the Highland League.
The Maroons were gunning for a seventh successive league win and when they stormed into a two goal lead a minute after half-time, the unthinkable was on the cards.
Formartine have a strong experienced squad, though, and the last seven minutes saw them snatch a crucial win in their title chase.
From a Keith perspective, they played ever so well, and they had a tough 90 minutes in midweek at Strathspey as well. We have high hopes of finishing in the top eight, and that is certainly feasible.
We play a lot of good football, and the duo from Maud, Luke Barbour and Donnie Fraser, have been marvellous additions to the squad, as has young defender Adam Clark, and the return of experienced midfielder Bruce Raffell.
It was a sad afternoon pre match when there was a minute’s silence in memory of Keith FC legend “The Bustling Bobby from Banff” Keith Rattray who sadly died on Friday at the age of 71.
My all time Keith FC hero blasted home 101 goals in 175 games from 1969-75, and boy could he shoot, I never saw anybody hit a ball so hard, and he used to score three or four goals in a game. My thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.
