Turriff United and Buckie Thistle shared the spoils in a six-goal thriller at The Haughs.
Two goals from James Chalmers had given United a deserved half-time lead but a double from Chris Angus helped the Jags draw level before Jags netted what they thought was a winning goal in a goalmouth scramble only for Artjoms Kunzecovs to level from the penalty spot with the final kick of the ball.
The home side dominated possession but lacked an edge in attack, although Leszek Nowosielski tested Buckie goalkeeper Greg Sim with a low drive.
The home side pushed for an opener and it duly arrived when a corner was headed home by Chalmers.
It was one-way traffic after the goal and Allan MacKenzie forced Sim into another save as the home side pushed for a second goal. For all Turriff’s pressure they almost conceded an equaliser when Taylor was sent clear, but Kevin Main made a fine save with his feet.
His save proved crucial as Turriff doubled the lead in the final minute of the first half when the ball broke to Chalmers on the edge of the box and he beat Sim with a low drive.
The visitors had to respond and did so in impressive fashion seven minutes into the second half.
A looping cross into the box was volleyed past Main by Jags attacker Chris Angus, who was unmarked at the back post.
Buckie were buoyed by the goal and pushed forward in search of an equaliser, prompting Turriff manager Ross Jack to make a double substitution to try to regain control of the game.
One of those replacements, Gary McGowan, came close to restoring his side’s two-goal lead but Sim turned his shot past the post before captain Cammy Bowden headed a corner just wide of the Buckie goalkeeper’s left post.
The home side was left to rue those squandered chances when Jags drew level in scrappy fashion through Angus, who bundled the ball over the line after the home defence had failed to clear.
In a frantic finale Chalmers was denied his hat-trick when his shot came back off the post and with play raging from end to end it was the visitors who scored a fifth following a goalmouth scramble.
The drama was not over with Kunzecov levelling with a penalty after Lewis MacKinnon was adjudged to have handled in the box.
Aberdeen’s under-17s defeated Rothes 2-1 at MacKessack Park last night, the Speysiders missing out on a draw when they missed a second-half penalty.
