New Nairn County manager Ronnie Sharp insists County is the only club which could have attracted him back to management.
The 50-year-old, pictured, was yesterday named new manager at Station Park, bringing to an end a lengthy search for a successor to Les Fridge, who resigned following the departure of the club’s money men, the Mackintosh family. Sharp was coaching the club’s under-20 squad but has agreed a one-year rolling contract after being offered the job by the club’s new board.
He said: “I have previously said I was not interested in returning to management, but this is the only club I would have ever considered reversing that decision for.
“The call came a bit out of the blue but the more I thought about it, the more the challenge of building the squad again appealed to me.
“I am looking forward to meeting with the players at training on Tuesday and starting to work with them.
“They are a talented group and have achieved a lot over the last few years.”
Interim chairman Donald Matheson hopes the appointment of a manager can bring some much needed stability to the club which has lost key personnel and funding this summer.
He said: “We unanimously agreed that offering Ronnie the manager’s position was the correct decision to take and I am delighted he has now accepted our offer. I am looking forward to working with him.”
Sharp, who played for County in three spells, previously managed the club from 1999 to 2004.
