Caley Jags goalkeeper Fon Williams calls for more of the same from his side

Owain Fon Williams has urged his Caley Thistle team-mates to show the same resolve which earned a draw against Celtic as they bid to move away from the bottom of the Scottish Premiership.

Richie Foran’s side moved off the bottom of the division thanks to Alex Fisher’s last-minute equaliser against the champions in a thrilling 2-2 draw at Caledonian Stadium.

Caley Jags goalkeeper Fon Williams played a key role for his side by keeping the Hoops at bay with several outstanding second-half saves before Fisher’s late header.

He said: “We showed the character and togetherness in our squad. We never say die and we have a great worth ethic.

“It is great to have an unbeaten run going but Dundee will be a very tough game for us and our focus is on that now and hopefully the run will continue.”

Fon Williams, who passed a fitness test just hours before the game, was pleased to see his efforts in the second half rewarded.

He said: “I only trained on Saturday for the first time and I didn’t kick a ball until the game. I felt my game going against Aberdeen with my first kick last week, so I hadn’t touched a ball since Saturday.

“It was touch and go but we worked hard in the week to get it settled down and, thankfully, I got through the game fine with no reaction.

“We all know when Celtic come to Inverness it is going to be a difficult game and, more than likely, I am going to be busy in goal but what was nice was the fact my saves counted in the end when Alex Fisher came off the bench to score the equaliser and get us a point.

“I’m just doing my best and I’m delighted we got something out of the game. As a team what we did paid off in the end. It wasn’t as if we played 90 minutes and came off the pitch saying we were unlucky. We walked off the pitch having taken something from the game.”

The Wales international hopes his display in front of the television cameras will not have gone unnoticed by international manager Chris Coleman.

He said: “Who knows? He might have been watching and it was nice it was on telly for more people to see but the main thing for me was that we got something from the game.

“I’m happy just being there and nothing makes me prouder than being in the national team. What was created in France was special, the best moment of my life, and to be part of it was unbelievable.

“If I can continue being with the squad I will be happy.”
