Caley Thistle goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams was frustrated at his side’s failure to offer Celtic a sterner test in the 3-0 Premiership defeat at Parkhead on Saturday.
Inverness fell to defeat against the champions, who netted second-half goals through Scott Sinclair, Leigh Griffiths and Tom Rogic, with Caley Jags midfielder Greg Tansey red-carded midway through the second half.
Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops are cruising towards the Premiership title but having been the only side to take points from the Hoops in the league, in September’s 2-2 draw at Caledonian Stadium, Fon Williams was disappointed by his side’s showing on Saturday.
He said: “Celtic are a fantastic side and there’s no hiding that. We went down to 10 men and that made it very difficult.
“The last half an hour was tough because they are so strong and had the extra player and came at us wave after wave.
“We put ourselves about a bit but we wanted to get on the ball a bit more and be better on the ball – but we weren’t good enough and we got punished.
“Celtic are the best team in Scottish football and we had to compete and prepare for a long afternoon. But with 10 men it became a constant attack.
“It’s tough but we rolled up our sleeves and did our best and try to get something from the match, but it wasn’t good enough.”
Attention now turns to international matters for Welshman Fon Williams, who is in the Wales squad for Saturday’s World Cup qualifying match against Serbia at Cardiff City Stadium.
The 29-year-old made his return to the Caley Jags starting line-up against Celtic, having been sidelined with a back spasm the previous weekend.
Although not expected to feature for Chris Coleman’s side he expects a hectic week, adding: “It will be a tough one at home. I had a bad back before this game, so I think after a week of shot stopping against Gareth Bale it will be even worse.”
