Aberdeen came from behind to beat Caley Thistle in an entertaining encounter in the Highlands.
Lonsana Doumboya’s header put Inverness ahead but a double from Kenny McLean and a penalty from Adam Rooney secured a 3-1 win for the Dons.
Caley Thistle manager Richie Foran made three changes to the side which lost at Celtic before the international break with Lewis Horner dropping to the bench while Greg Tansey was suspended and Liam Polworth has been ruled out until the New Year with an ankle ligament injury.
Loan signing Larnell Cole made his first start for Caley Jags while there were recalls for Aaron Doran and Carl Tremarco.
Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes named the same starting 11 which won 2-1 at Partick Thistle before the break.
The Dons started the game brightly with Kenny McLean testing Owain Fon Williams with a 20 yard strike which the Caley Thistle goalkeeper held before James Maddison went close with a fierce low drive which Fon Williams turned round the post.
The visitors were left to rue not making the breakthrough when Caley Jags opened the scoring with their first attack in the 15th minute when Lonsana Doumbouya beat Joe Lewis with a glancing header from Ross Draper’s cross.
The lead lasted 13 minutes as the Dons drew level in spectacular fashion as Kenny McLean fired home a 25 yard free kick to restore parity.
With play raging from one end to the other the Dons broke away through Jonny Hayes whose run from the halfway line was halted by Gary Warren in the Inverness box. Referee Kevin Glancy deemed the challenge to be an illegal one and awarded a penalty which was converted by Adam Rooney to make it 2-1 to the Dons.
It took a fantastic save from Fon Williams early in the second half to prevent the Dons from extending their lead as he made a fine reflex block to push Andy Considine’s powerful header over the crossbar.
Caley Thistle chased an equaliser but they suffered a setback when full back Brad McKay was stretchered off following a challenge from former Caley Jags captain Graeme Shinnie.
Aberdeen made sure the points were heading back to Pittodrie in the 89th minute when Hayes’ pass released McLean and he ran clear into the box before side footing the ball past Fon Williams to make it 3-1.
