Caley Thistle are set to be boosted by the return of midfielder Liam Polworth from an ankle injury within the next 10 days.
Polworth, pictured below, had been one of Inverness’ leading performers this season before suffering the injury in the closing minutes of the Highlanders’ 3-0 loss against Celtic at Parkhead last month.
The 22-year-old’s absence has coincided with a drop in form from Richie Foran’s side, which is without a win since Polworth scored in a 3-0 win at Motherwell in October.
Polworth has returned to training following a five-week absence and although Foran has not ruled out the possibility of him returning for Saturday’s game at Kilmarnock, the Caley Jags manager believes the following weekend’s game against Rangers at Ibrox could be a more realistic target.
Foran said: “Liam is flying, he’s looking really good.
“He’s back running and was back on the training ground last week.
“We hope to have him back at least for Rangers, maybe even Kilmarnock.”
Despite Saturday’s controversial 1-1 draw against Hamilton Accies extending their winless run to six games, the result moved Caley Jags off the bottom of the Premiership and Foran is upbeat ahead of Saturday’s trip to Kilmarnock.
He added: “That’s two excellent performances out of the last three games.
“Against St Johnstone we were poor, but against Dundee it was probably our best performance of the season.
“We’re looking forward to it. We’re going there in high spirits now after the Hamilton game and will take the game to them.
“We need to get points on board, we can’t keep making excuses. I would be delighted with an ugly 1-0 win.
“We just have to cut out individual mistakes we all seem to be making. We need to keep creating chances, and have that little bit of composure at the end of it, and we will win most games.
“We’re looking to catch the teams on top of us.”
