Caley Thistle midfielder Liam Polworth is determined not to allow 50,000 Rangers supporters to derail his side’s plan at Ibrox today.
Caley Thistle have not won for seven matches and face a Rangers side high on confidence having moved clear of Aberdeen and Hearts in second place in the Premiership.
Mark Warburton’s men are favourites to record a fourth straight win this afternoon but nothing will change in Polworth’s approach, however, with the 22-year-old taking heart from a narrow 1-0 home defeat against the Light Blues in October.
It was a game in which Inverness created but missed several chances and Polworth said: “We can get at most teams in the league. If we do our possession and passing the right way, you can get through them.
“We know it’s going to be hard but we’re not going to lie down.
“It was some goal Kenny Miller scored to beat us up here, but we had chances to win the game.
“If we get into the right positions we can create chances and get goals. Sometimes we haven’t got into those areas often enough and we’ve probably not scored as many goals as we should.
“But if we’re worrying about playing in front of a big crowd, there’s not much point going out and playing.
“Rangers get a few more people coming to watch them than we do and it’s going to be a tough game, but all that matters is on the pitch.”
Polworth is refusing to be disheartened by Caley Jags’ points tally of 16, and reckons his side has been unfortunate not to earn more.
He added: “We haven’t picked up the points we would like to and the table doesn’t lie. But I don’t think the performances have merited the points we’ve got.
“We’ve always got a good chance going into any game and if we put on a good performance, we’ve got a chance of picking something up.”
Polworth made his return from a five-week absence through an ankle injury in last Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Kilmarnock.
The Inverness-born player is determined to put the setback behind him, and added: “I felt all right coming back last week. I’d only trained a couple of days and wasn’t 100%, but I had to deal with it.
“I went a long time without getting injured and it happens to every player at some point. I’m just happy to be back playing.
“I’m enjoying myself. I’m at a nice place in my life and playing football every week. I’m happy and that transmits through everything.”
