Caley Thistle midfielder Liam Polworth hopes other clubs will be starting to sit up and take notice of the Highlanders’ recent revival.
Inverness have taken four points out of a possible six against sides in the top-half of the table, with their 1-1 draw against Hearts at Tynecastle followed by a dramatic late 2-1 victory against Rangers on Friday.
It does not get any easier for Richie Foran’s men, who will be the latest team to attempt to end champions-elect Celtic’s unbeaten domestic record this season when they take on Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops at Caledonian Stadium tonight.
Polworth feels Inverness must approach tonight’s match with confidence despite the difficult task awaiting them.
He said: “When other teams see someone a few points adrift, it would probably give them a bit of confidence.
“When we start clawing back those points though, all of a sudden people start looking over their shoulders. We are just trying to look forward and climb the table.
“Sooner or later we had to start picking up points, so hopefully this will be an upward curve for us. After this game we have a break at the weekend. When we get back into the games after that hopefully we can battle through them and push up the table.
“Two performances in a row and two results against big teams has got to give you a lot of confidence going into the next game. We know obviously this one will be a tough game.
“No one has beaten Celtic this season but I am sure they will have an off-day one day, hopefully it will be against us.”
Inverness remain the only team to have taken points from Celtic in the Premiership this season, with Alex Fisher’s late header securing a 2-2 draw at Caledonian Stadium in September.
Caley Jags have not fared so well at Parkhead however, with a 3-0 league defeat in November followed by a humiliating 6-0 loss in the Scottish Cup last month.
Polworth says his team-mates must guard against another heavy defeat against the Glasgow outfit and the 22-year-old added: “When we play Celtic we have to make sure that we keep hold of the ball for at least spells in the game and get ourselves into it.
“We must try not to concede early and hopefully play into the game and keep that going.
“At Celtic Park you might come away with something or you might only lose 1-0. On other days they will put five or six past you.
“We try our best but sometimes it doesn’t work out.”
