Caley Thistle’s board of directors will meet this week to decide manager Richie Foran’s future with the pressure mounting on the toiling Highlanders.
Inverness seem destined to be relegated to the Championship having fallen four points adrift at the foot of the table with just six games of the season remaining.
Foran was appointed last summer following the departure of John Hughes, who left following a disagreement with chairman Kenny Cameron about the club’s playing budget.
Cameron gave Foran, who had been club captain, a four-year contract in his first managerial position, but the Irishman endured a tough start, losing his first three league matches.
Then came a drastic improvement with just one defeat in the following nine matches, which earned Foran the Premiership manager of the month award for September.
The Highlanders have struggled since, however, winning only four league matches all season and currently on a dire run of one victory from 21 matches.
The latest setback came in Saturday’s 3-0 home loss against St Johnstone, for which Foran took the blame and admitted he was under-performing in the role.
The dire form has prompted Cameron to discuss Foran’s position with his board members, as they consider the possibility of paying off the remaining three years of the Irishman’s contract.
A club source said: “The conversation has been had at board level and it would not be a surprise to see a change before the end of the week.”
Inverness take on Motherwell in a crucial Premiership encounter on Saturday, with the Highlanders in need of a victory to maintain serious hope of prolonging their seven-year stay in the top-flight.
