Caley Thistle are bottom of the Premiership but manager Richie Foran senses the opportunity to turn the pressure on today’s opponents Motherwell with a victory at Fir Park.
Inverness fell four points adrift at the foot of the table following last weekend’s 3-0 home defeat by St Johnstone, which prolonged the Highlanders’ dire run of one victory from 21 matches.
Caley Jags would move to within a point of the 11th-placed Steelmen with a victory today and Foran wants his players to show no fear against a side searching for its first home win since November 19.
Foran said: “I’ve had a good chat with the players and they can’t wait to get going again. They wish the game came earlier.
“We’ll be up against a good side but Well have conceded a lot of goals. We have goalscorers in our team and we’re creating, but need to create some better chances than we have.
“Motherwell was our only away win and a fantastic one as well – we should have scored more goals. We played very well on the day and there’s no doubt we can go and do that again.
“Although we’re sitting bottom of the table, we’re in confident mood because we know we’ve come close so many times.
“If we can get that goal ahead, that’ll turn into two, three, four I’ve no doubt. I really believe it will.”
Inverness attacker Billy Mckay faces a race to be fit following a hernia injury, while Gary Warren and Larnell Cole are both suspended after being dismissed in the defeat by Saints.
Foran has urged his players to show a strong response to the side’s current predicament, with today’s game the first of only six remaining.
He added: “They know it is not good enough. As a group, we know it is not good enough from us all. Players, manager, coaching staff – we know we haven’t done well enough, but we know we’re very close.
“Motherwell is a huge game but it’s a game we embrace. The situation we’re in, sitting bottom of the table, we have to embrace it. It is a challenging time but you fight, fight and fight to get out of it – and we will.”
