Former Caley Thistle midfielder Danny MacDonald is set to become general manager of the Inverness club.
New chairman Willie Finlayson signalled his intention to fill the position when he was appointed last month, opting to separate himself from the chief executive officer role carried out by predecessor Kenny Cameron.
MacDonald, who occupies a youth development role at Caledonian Stadium, is the leading contender for the new role.
MacDonald played for the Highlanders during their maiden season in 1994/95, having previously played for Caledonian in the Highland League.
Chairman Finlayson says an announcement is imminent, following the appointment of John Robertson as manager on Wednesday.
Finlayson said: “There’s been a lot of progress on that and we’re pretty much finished the process.
“We have our candidate and we’re going to announce it soon, we are really happy about that.”
Finlayson has pledged to bring transparency to Caley Jags as the club prepares for life in the Championship after their relegation last season.
Inverness offered an apology and a 10% reduction on all season ticket prices for the forthcoming campaign after receiving criticism from supporters for keeping prices the same as they were in the Premiership.
Finlayson is keen to develop a strong liaison with supporters, adding: “It can be expected to change.
“I’ve been part of the board for some time, so I am part of the previous regime, as well as being part of the new one.
“I don’t like to trawl over the past, I’m not sure it’s productive. If we can take the obvious lessons of the past and move forward, then we’ll do better.
“One of those is definitely around communication. I’m a very open, apolitical, transparent individual. If you’re like that with people, most of the time you’ll get a good relationship back.
“I don’t just speak for myself but my colleagues as well in that we’re all trying to be like that.”
