Caley Thistle manager John Robertson reckons much-needed Championship victories will come if his side maintains the level of performance shown in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Falkirk.
Inverness were dominant against the Bairns but failed to find a breakthrough, spurning a succession of second-half chances.
The result keeps the Highlanders in the relegation play-off position, a point behind Saturday’s opponents Falkirk.
Caley Jags have won just once in nine league games so far but Robertson feels his side is on the right path following a poor start to the campaign, following relegation from the Premiership last season.
Robertson said: “We said this would be a difficult season. There’s been a lot of rebuilding – it’s a new group of players. We are building for the future.
“The first thing was to get the club stable and we’ve done that. Now it’s about getting results on the park. If we continue to show the level of performance and commitment that we did against Falkirk, we will soon climb up the league. That was the building blocks. We need to turn these good performances into victories.”
Robertson took encouragement from the performance of wide midfielder Jake Mulraney, who was the closest to finding a breakthrough for the Highlanders, forcing an excellent save from Bairns goalkeeper Robbie Thomson before hitting the post with another effort from the resulting corner.
The Irishman was making his first start since August and Robertson says he must show more consistency in order to become a regular starter.
Robertson added: “Jake’s biggest frustration is Jake.
“On Saturday it was a big pitch that suited him and we targeted Jordan McGhee, who is a right-sided centre back who was playing at left back.
“We thought Jake would be the man to get at him and he did very well.
“There will be games Jake starts and there will be games he comes off the bench.
“If we can get the consistency we got from Jake in the second half, he would be in the team every week. He needs to show that consistency.”
