Caley Thistle manager John Robertson says more players may need to leave Caledonian Stadium before he can add to his squad.
Robertson is targeting three new additions in the January transfer window, in order to aid Inverness’ efforts to win promotion from the Championship.
Caley Jags already know they will lose defenders David Raven and Matthew Elsdon, on-loan from Middlesbrough, when their contracts run out next month but Robertson says he may need to move more players on in order to create the funds required to add to his pool.
Robertson, whose side face bottom-of-the-table Brechin City at Glebe Park tomorrow, said: “We are looking at it. There’s a natural loss with Raven and Elsdon at the moment, and potentially there could be another couple on the move.
“We may look at a few loans as well, which will raise the necessary capital to try and get a couple of our targets in.
“That’s what we’re working on at the moment.
“You very rarely get someone in January that will not be a loan player, or someone who has fallen out of favour.
“I don’t mean falling out with the club or manager, but just not getting a game. We will look at that aspect of it and we have to keep looking at improving the squad.”
Robertson oversaw a drastic overhaul of the squad he inherited from Richie Foran when he took over as Inverness manager for the second time in the summer.
The former Hearts boss accepts there have been varying degrees of success in the players he brought in but he is satisfied with the way his team has clicked into shape, and he added: “People have to remember that when I came into the job I had three weeks to sign 13 players and we had to rush signings through and and see what was left.
“A lot of your work tends to be done in January, February and March. That’s when you start to get players lined up and ready for an opportunity to bring them in in the summer.
“There’s players who have come in and one really well, there’s players come in and done OK and there are players who have struggled a wee bit. But that’s football and that can happen.
“We have also had the spectre of relegation hanging over us and that affected the players who were still here.
“Slowly but surely we have battled away and found a formation and a style. The style will never change, I want my players to get it down and pass it. That’s the way to bring out the best in what we have got.”
