Aaron Doran’s goal just before half-time was enough to give Caley Thistle all three points against Dundee United in the Championship.
Doran struck just before the break to give Inverness a 1-0 win which takes them above Falkirk into seventh place.
Caley Thistle manager John Robertson made four changes to the side which won the Irn-Bru Cup on Saturday with Charlie Trafford, Brad Mckay, Nathan Austin and Aaron Doran coming into the side.
Jake Mulraney missed out altogether while Collin Seedorf, Joe Chalmers and Connor Bell were the other players making way with the trio dropping to the bench.
The first half was one of few chances with Scott McDonald forcing Caley Jags goalkeeper Mark Ridgers into an early save before George Oakley somehow contrived to head the ball over the crossbar for the home side despite being on the line.
Inverness were the brighter of the two teams though and their perseverance paid off just before the interval when Oakley played Aaron Doran through on goal and the winger fired past Harry Lewis in the United goal.
Clear-cut chances remained at a premium in the second half.
Inverness substitute Daniel MacKay almost made an immediate impact just after the hour mark with a low drive which Lewis did well to turn round the post and Lewis denied the teenager again with 10 minutes remaining.
