Caley Thistle winger Aaron Doran insists his side is ready to give everything as Inverness try to mount one final play-off push in the Championship.
Caley Jags have it all to do as they try to move up the table from seventh to the top four with Doran’s goal in Tuesday’s 1-0 win against Dundee United leaving his club 11 points behind fourth placed United with nine games left to play.
Morton, who are third and have played three games more than the Highlanders, are 12 points clear of Inverness and with his side having home advantage for their next two matches, starting with Saturday’s game against St Mirren, Doran knows six points are a must.
He said: “If we can win the next two games it will put a cat among the pigeons as six points will get us right back involved. Dundee United haven’t won for a while now and if we can win the next two we’re right in the mix again.
“St Mirren beat Dumbarton 5-0 and they are looking to get the league won as soon as possible but we’re trying to stop that at the weekend and if we can play the football we’re capable of it should be a great game.
“It’s huge for us to be back in the Premiership. We’ve been in the top flight for the whole time I’ve been at the club and it’s not nice being in this division. We want to be in the top flight and we’re going to put everything we can into these last night games and see where we end up.
“Hopefully it can be a play-off place but if not at least it can give us some momentum for next season.”
Doran knows Inverness need to find a ruthless streak in front of goal after squandering several chances to add to their tally in Tuesday’s win against United.
He said: “It was a good performance against Dundee United but we could have been more ruthless up front. We should have won by a few more goals as we played some nice football but it’s good to get the win and hopefully we can continue that.
“We’ve been good from 18 yard box to 18 yard box but not taken our chances and that was the case again against United. I got lucky with the goal as I shanked it a little bit but thankfully it went in and it was a big three points. Hopefully we can gain some momentum from it.”
Teenager Daniel MacKay impressed in his substitute appearance once more and could have scored twice in the closing stages. Doran likes what he sees of the 16-year-old and hopes MacKay can play a key supporting role in the run-in.
He said: “You can see the enthusiasm when he comes on. He gets in behind, he created two or three chances and when you see other lads in the team making runs he just ignores them as all he is thinking about is scoring goals. He’s never going to pass to us.
“It’s brilliant to see and he gives us all a great lift when he comes on and has an impact like he is having.”
