Caley Thistle and Edinburgh City will meet again at Caledonian Stadium next month after it finished 1-1 in their Scottish Cup third round tie.

Inverness were made to pay for not taking their chances as Edinburgh equalised with three minutes remaining to set-up a replay at Caledonian Stadium on Tuesday, December 4.

Caley Thistle manager John Robertson made three changes from the side which came back from 3-0 down to earn a draw in a six-goal thriller at Queen of the South last weekend for the trip to Ainslie Park.

George Oakley and Charlie Trafford dropped to the bench while Aaron Doran was rested. The three players coming into the side were Shaun Rooney, Nathan Austin and Jordan White.

Inverness started brightly and Calum Antell denied the visitors from opening the scoring with two fine saves inside the opening 15 minutes, blocking a Liam Polworth shot before tipping an Austin effort on to the crossbar.

Edinburgh City came into the game without seriously testing Mark Ridgers in the Inverness goal but the home side’s hopes of a shock were dented before the break when Inverness took the lead.

Rooney was the scorer, rising at the back post to head Polworth’s corner into the net.

Coll Donaldson and Sean Welsh had chances to put the tie beyond the home side in the second half but they failed to take them and Caley Thistle were made to pay when Edinburgh equalised to earn themselves a replay with three minutes remaining.

Craig Thomson’s free kick from the halfway line fell to Blair Henderson inside a congested penalty box and the striker scrambled the ball over the line to spark wild celebrations among the home support.
