Fans have not seen best of us yet, says Caley Thistle’s Aaron Doran

Caley Thistle midfielder Aaron Doran is convinced the Inverness supporters have yet to see the best of his side this season.

Inverness are fifth in the Championship having slipped out of the play-off positions below Queen of the South on goal difference, albeit the Highlanders have a game in hand.

Although Caley Jags have lost only one of their 16 matches so far, John Robertson’s men have been left to rue 11 draws which have prevented them from challenging higher up in the table.

Inverness’ current position compares favourably to the equivalent stage of last season however, when the Highlanders were three points worse off and five points adrift of the play-off places.

Inverness face Morton, who are a point behind in sixth, on Saturday, before reaching the halfway stage of the campaign when they take on Ross County in next weekend’s Highland derby at Victoria Park.

Irishman Doran believes his side have plenty to build on as the business end of the season approaches, and he said: “Looking at this time last season, we were miles off it. We are in a good position to pick up in the second half of the season.

“I don’t think we have seen the best of us. In one of the games it’s just going to click and we will start scoring goals for fun.

“The unbeaten run we went on was good – but it was too many draws. We just need to pick up more wins and we will see how the season goes.”

Doran has enjoyed his most prominent run in the side since returning from a second knee operation in the space of two years last November, having started 17 matches in all competitions this term.

The 27-year-old, who has captained the side in recent weeks during Carl Tremarco’s thigh injury absence, is determined to add to his goals tally, with all three of his strikes coming in cup competitions.

Doran added: “I have been fit most of the season. I had a little groin strain for the Edinburgh City away game.

“I just want to add more goals to my game, and more assists to help the team as much as I can.

“Goals are coming from all over the park now. Tom Walsh is scoring goals, while big Jordan White got a hat-trick and George Oakley is scoring too.

“I just want to chip in with a few more goals and make it a positive season for me personally.”
