Caley Thistle midfielder David Carson has praised the Highlanders’ powers of resilience for returning to winning ways in recent weeks.
Inverness have recorded back-to-back Championship wins over Dundee and Alloa Athletic, which followed successive 3-0 losses against Dundee United and Arbroath.
The revival has closed the gap on leaders Dundee United to seven points ahead of today’s home match against Ayr United, and Englishman Carson is eager to continue building form.
He said: “We have had a few bad results, but the boys have come back to training and knuckled right down.
“We have gone with what the manager has asked us to do, and the results have come with that.
“We have continued with a good week’s training this week and the boys are buzzing at the minute. We had a big result against Dundee, and we have followed that up against Alloa.
“If we get another win this weekend, the momentum going into the December games is going to push us right through.
“We will see if we can get three points to close the gap and create a gap with Ayr.”
Inverness manager John Robertson has challenged his side to sustain a lengthy winning run in order to keep up the pressure on leaders United.
Carson, who is in his first season in Scottish football following his summer move from Morpeth Town, insists that is a challenging task in the second-tier.
He added: “It is competitive. If you look at our results, you can see that we have beaten teams and then lost points again.
“I go back to the Dundee game – if we beat Dundee and then went to Alloa and didn’t take three points it would have been a missed chance really, coming off the back of a good result.
“I think any team can beat anyone, but we need concentration and we can’t look too far ahead, we need to take it week-by-week.
“There are a lot of good teams in this league – whether they are part-time or not. We saw that with Alloa last week, they were a decent side for being part-time.
“It’s a good league – but I think we have got the players and the staff to go on and do well in this league.”
Caley Jags triumphed 2-0 when they last faced Ayr at Somerset Park in October, but with Inverness just two points ahead of Mark Kerr’s men Carson is expecting a tight encounter.
The 24-year-old added: “It’s going to be a tough game. We have played them away, when there wasn’t much in the game.
“We took our chances and held on to get the three points. I think it will be the same. They are going to come and try to get the three points like we are.
“It’s going to be a really tight game, and chances will need to be taken to ultimately get the three points.”
