Caley Thistle manager John Robertson says Inverness are still awaiting confirmation a deal for defender Coll Donaldson to join Ross County has been struck.
Donaldson, who is out of contract in the summer, is believed to have agreed a pre-contract with the Staggies, who are keen to bring the 24-year-old to Victoria Park during the January transfer window.
Although Robertson confirmed the Staggies have held discussions with Donaldson, the Caley Jags boss has yet to be made aware of any agreement.
Robertson insists County will have to stump up for Donaldson should they want to bring him in this month.
Robertson said: “The protocol is they have asked for permission to speak to him, which we know they have. They are then duty-bound to inform us if they have reached an agreement – we have not heard that officially.
“What people have got to understand is that whether they have or have not, he is an Inverness Caledonian Thistle player.
“If it is the case, and we are still waiting officially to hear from Ross County that it is the deal going forward, then they will have to pay for him.
“He’s a valued member of our squad, and that’s what we are waiting on.”
