Elgin City forward Shane Sutherland has agreed a pre-contract to return to Championship side Caley Thistle.
Wick-born Sutherland, who began his career with Inverness before being released in 2013, is City’s leading scorer with 23 goals this term.
With his contract up in the summer Sutherland has been free to talk to other clubs since the turn of the year, with Elgin confirming the 29-year-old has now agreed to return to Caledonian Stadium at the end of the season.
Sutherland had also been tracked by League 1 side Raith Rovers, along with English non-league sides Dover Athletic and York City.
Sutherland is due to remain with Elgin to boost the Moray side’s bid to secure a League 2 promotion play-off place but with Inverness manager John Robertson facing the prospect of losing players of his own during the January transfer window, Caley Jags could move to bring in Sutherland this month.
