The right-back has entered the final six months of his deal at Inverness and is free to talk to other clubs. Dundee were also keen to sign the former Queen of the South player but it is understood St Johnstone are set to win the race for Rooney’s signature. Former Caley Jags defender Jamie McCart made his debut for the Perth Saints during Wednesday’s night’s 3-0 defeat by Celtic at McDiarmid Park. St Johnstone have also been linked with a loan move for Stoke City midfielder Lasse Sorensen. Speaking after the Celtic match, St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright said: “Hopefully we’ll get one or two loans in and I think that might happen. “The next 48 hours will be busy for everybody. “It’s just mad this window and always seems to come down to the last couple of days.”
