Caley Thistle manager John Robertson hopes forwards Jordan White and Nikolay Todorov can continue to bring out the best in one another.
White has been first-choice forward throughout most of the campaign and is the Highlanders’ leading scorer with 10 goals this season, with three of them coming in the last four league games.
Todorov has provided competition for White, with the Bulgarian striker netting seven goals in four starts and 25 substitute appearances.
Although Robertson is keen to reward Todorov for his patience, he insists the form of White has made it difficult for the 23-year-old to break into the starting line-up.
Robertson said: “Nikolay understood when he came that Jordan was our main striker – he had earned that accolade with a very good season last year.
“Jordan has been playing extremely well of late and Nikolay has had to be patient.
“He did very well at the start of the season, and then he went off the boil a little bit with his link-up play. That’s what we’re really working hard on with Nikolay at the moment.
“If he tidies that up, he will get far more starts.
“He’s a handy lad to bring on. He’s a threat in the box – he’s the best player in our team at attacking balls in the box.
“He’s got to make an impact when he comes on, which he has done in the last two games.
“We feel he’s got a future at the club. He’s had to be patient. Jordan has been playing well and his all-round game has been decent.
“That is what has seen him start more games in front of Nikolay, but if Nikolay keeps coming on and making an impact as we have asked him to, that gives him an opportunity to play.”
Caley Jags are nearing a full squad for tomorrow’s Championship trip to Alloa Athletic, with James Vincent returning from a knock and Brad Mckay free from suspension, leaving Sean Welsh as the only injury absentee.
Robertson has freshened up his side by drafting in teenager Roddy MacGregor for the last two league matches and the Inverness boss is keen for his full squad to contribute.
He added: “The plan at the start of the season was to have a player in each position to push them on. We wanted Roddy MacGregor to push James Keatings, and he has been doing that. We just need Roddy to add goals to his game, which is the only thing letting him down at the moment.
“He’s having no luck in front of goal, but we feel once he gets that goal he will kick on.
“It’s the same with the wide men, and when they are fit we have four midfielders battling.
“At the moment, we have got more front men we can juggle around than any other position.”
