Caley Thistle defeated Elgin City 7-3 in their first pre-season friendly of the new season at Borough Briggs.
Inverness took just four minutes to take a stunning lead, with James Keatings picking the ball up 30 yards from goal before curling an effort high into Thomas McHale’s top right corner.
John Robertson’s men doubled their advantage on 23 minutes, with the ball breaking for Nikolay Todorov to find the net with a low effort from the edge of the box.
City pulled a goal back just five minutes later however, with Kane Hester cutting in from the left flank before rifling a powerful low effort into Mark Ridgers’ bottom right corner.
The Highlanders regained their two-goal cushion on 56 minutes after former Elgin forward Shane Sutherland was felled by his ex team mate Euan Spark, with Keatings slotting home his second goal of the game from the spot.
Elgin threatened a fightback when Hester latched on to Lewis Toshney’s misplaced header to finish past substitute goalkeeper Cammy Mackay.
Inverness put the game beyond doubt with a quickfire double however. Miles Storey struck home on 75 minutes after latching on to a ball which came all the way through from substitute goalkeeper Cammy Mackay, before Roddy MacGregor tucked home three minutes later after Sutherland had seen his effort blocked.
Elgin netted their third when Stephen Bronsky nodded home a Russell Dingwall corner, however Storey and MacGregor both doubled their accounts with neat finishes in the dying moments.
