Caley Thistle defender Gary Warren says manager John Hughes does not need to make major changes to the playing squad this summer.
Hughes, in any case, is unlikely to have much scope in his budget for bolstering the Inverness squad but Warren is convinced the current crop at Caley Thistle is capable of bringing success to the club.
A memorable 2013-14 season ended with a fifth place finish in the Scottish Premiership and a League Cup final defeat to Aberdeen but the pressure will be on manager Hughes to make a positive start to the new campaign after a stuttering end to last season.
In the previous two seasons, Inverness have gone close to securing European football and Warren believes only a couple of new players are required to help them achieve that objective.
He said: “If you look at the nucleus of the squad we have, it’s done well for the past two seasons now.
“In the last two seasons, we’ve probably achieved what we have because we have had a settled squad.
“Obviously, new faces are important just to breath a bit of freshness into the side, while it increases competition for places.
“We’ve got the majority of the squad signed up but it would be nice if the manager was working hard to try to get a few new faces in as I think that’s what we need.”
Warren, the former Newport County defender, pledged his future to the club last month by extending his contract until May 2017.
The Englishman says it won’t be too hard for Hughes to persuade any possible transfer targets to commit to a new life in the Highlands.
He added: “I’m settled here. The Highlands is a lovely place to live and work.
“We have a great group of lads and the club has had a great couple of years. Being part of that has been great and I want to continue being part of it.”
