Caley Thistle manager John Hughes was delighted with his side’s first pre-season workout as Inverness ran out 4-0 winners against Clachnacuddin at Grant Street Park, Inverness, tonight.
Hughes was particularly pleased with the performance of 23-year-old French trialist John-Christophe Ayina, who played for Racing Santander in Spain last season.
Hughes said: “It was perfect workout for us. We trained this morning and worked very hard, so our preparation was perfect.
“Our trialist is just a little bit behind in his fitness compared with the rest of the players but as you can see he gives us something different with his pace over the top.
“He got his goal, although I think he felt the pace a bit as the game went on. He could have had another couple of goals. The boy trained really hard this morning. He has been with us for a week now and technically, he is very good. We now just need to sit down and see what the next step is.”
Hughes hinted there may more new faces at Caledonian Stadium before the start of the season.
He added: “We have one or two irons in the fire. If we don’t get one then we may have to look at bringing in some younger ones to bolster the squad in terms of numbers, but they have to be good enough.
“I am delighted about where we are just now. This was great workout. Clach did well. The game probably came too early for them pre-season, but it has served its purpose.
“I am delighted Clach took on the game and I wish them all the best for the rest of the season.”
Meanwhile, Caley Thistle will play Fleetwood Town in a pre-season friendly in Inverness on Sunday, July 27.
