Caley Thistle midfielder Greg Tansey feels he is reaping the rewards of manager John Hughes’ pre-season programme.
The Caley Jags go into this afternoon’s match against Elgin City with comfortable wins against Highland League sides Clachnacuddin and Forres Mechanics already under their belt, having scored nine goals in the process.
Tansey has relished Hughes’ emphasis on maintaining the sharpness of the squad’s technical play, which he feels it is showing up well.
He said: “I have found it very enjoyable, and all the lads are the same. There’s a lot of football involved, you have that pre-season rust sometimes when you’re on the ball and making passes, it often takes a couple of weeks to get into the swing of things. But we’ve seen so much of the ball, the lads look sharp and we look like we’re playing with a good tempo. That’s just something we’ve got to concentrate on.”
Tansey got the scoring underway in spectacular fashion in Wednesday’s 5-0 win against Forres, with a 30-yard effort. The 25 year-old, who is in his second spell at the Caledonian Stadium, insists getting a full match was the priority.
He added: “I was happy with that one. Sometimes they go over the bar, but you’ve just got to keep hitting them and they do go in now and again. I just got half a yard and fancied it.
“It was good to get 90 minutes. We overcame a stubborn side. They played with a lot of energy and good shape and it was up to us to break them down. Over the course of the 90 minutes our class showed.
“I feel good considering the time of year. I was a bit tired towards the end, but I got through it without any niggles or knocks which is the main thing.
“The games are coming thick and fast so the main thing is not getting injuries and having as many players fit for the start of the season as we can.”
