Graeme Shinnie will today square up to brother Andrew in opposing colours for the first time in his career.
But Caley Thistle defender Graeme insists he is in no rush to join his big brother in earning a big move away from Inverness.
The younger Shinnie sibling has been heavily-linked to Aberdeen this summer as well as Championship clubs south of the border.
The Scotland under-21 international saw Andrew earn the lucrative switch to today’s hosts Birmingham a year ago but revealed he had deliberately switched off his phone during the close season to ensure he returned to Caley Thistle rested and raring to go.
Like all brothers, the two Shinnies used to knock lumps out of each other in the family back garden in Aberdeen as youngsters – but have never tussled in proper action on the football field.
The versatile Caley Thistle left back and midfielder said: “It’s funny but we’ve never played against each other before competitively or in a friendly. Andy was at Rangers before I got into the Inverness side and then he joined us here before Birmingham.
“Hopefully, we will both play and I might even end up marking him.”
As for intense speculation on his future, Shinnie insists it is something he has put to the back of his mind.
The Dons are understood to have had an offer turned down for the Caley Thistle player before pre-season started.
Shinnie said: “There’s nothing to say about it, really – it’s all speculation and rumour.
“I don’t know what will happen or what the club will do in terms of offering me a new contract here.
“I’ve been here five years, so I am settled, you would hope so after so long. The club has been good to me. It has given me the platform I’ve enjoyed and given me games in the Scottish Premiership.
“I enjoy my football here, so I’m just looking forward to the start of the season and looking to do as well as I did last year.
“I just try to blank out the speculation. I went away on holiday and my phone was switched off. I didn’t pay too much attention to it.
“I’m a footballer at Inverness. I’m here to do a job. Other than that, I try to stay away from the other stuff.”
