Caley Thistle attacker Billy Mckay’s focus remains on scoring goals for Inverness and he is determined to not be distracted by transfer talk.
Inverness turned down an offer from English League 1 club Fleetwood Town last week and Mckay shrugged off speculation about his future by netting the Caley Jags’ opener in Saturday’s opening day 2-0 win against Hamilton.
The Northern Ireland international insists nothing will change until his club decides he should be sold.
Mckay said: “I have just stayed focused. The club told me straight away they had rejected the bid, so I had nothing to think about and was just focused on Saturday’s game and putting a performance in for Inverness.
“I’m happy doing my best for the team at the minute and trying to score as many goals as I can. Until someone comes in with an exceptional offer like the manager and chairman said, nothing is going to happen and I’m going to be here for the season and will be trying my best.
“It was important for me to try to score on Saturday to get the focus back on me scoring goals for Inverness, and I think I’ve done that.
“I’ve been here for three years now, this will be my fourth season and the last two years have gone exceptionally well for me and the team so hopefully this season can be the same.
“We said we’ll start talking about a new contract after the season has started, but we’ve still got a long way to go in the campaign of course. We’ll talk about it and see what happens.”
Mckay was delighted he and his team-mates got off to a winning start against newly-promoted Accies on Saturday, and the 25-year-old aims to keep finding the net for John Hughes’ side.
He added: “Before the game I couldn’t have asked for more than to win the game 2-0, for me to get a goal and for the lads at the back to keep a clean sheet.
“I’ll keep putting defenders under pressure and hopefully I can keep getting in on goal.
“The manager wants us to try to win the ball as far away from our goal as we can, and on Saturday we created a few chances from doing that. We just want to put teams under pressure and hopefully win the ball back.”
