Inverness got their new season off to a flying start on Saturday with a 2-0 win against Hamilton, but manager John Hughes believes there is more to come from his team.
Squad strength will be crucial throughout the campaign and Hughes reckons there is more to come from the players he left in reserve at New Douglas Park.
Caley Thistle host the other Premiership newcomers Dundee tonight and Hughes said: “It was a perfect day with the two attackers scoring the goals, and keeping a clean sheet. We could have scored more goals in the second-half, and the introduction of Aaron Doran and Marley Watkins really gave us something late in the game.
“It’s important we’ve got strength in depth. I really feel for the guys who are sitting on the bench because the way pre-season went, everyone has merited a starting slot. But unfortunately I can only pick 11. I’ve been really pleased with their effort and commitment, and I feel for them, but their time will come.”
The Dark Blues have been tipped by many to make a big impression in the top-flight this season, and began their campaign with a 1-1 against Kilmarnock on Saturday.
Hughes admires the job manager Paul Hartley has done at Dens Park, however insists the focus is all about his Caley Jags side as they look to record consecutive Premiership wins.
Hughes said: “Dundee have recruited very well, they’ve brought in players with experience. It was important for them to get a draw in the first game.
“We’re going to have to be at our best to beat them, but I concentrate so much on what I do at my club. When we’re playing at home on that big pitch, it’s up to us to be on the front foot and take the game to them.
“We respect Dundee and we’ll know their strengths and weaknesses. But it’s about us, especially at home.
“Dundee are a team coming up, and they’re a team who in name and size deserve to be playing their football in the Premiership, their bumper crowd on Saturday tells you the size of the club.”
