Caley Thistle defeated St Johnstone 2-1 at the Caledonian Stadium to return to the top of the Premiership.
Goals midway through the second half by Marley Watkins and Ryan Christie put Inverness in command, with Brian Graham’s header 13 minutes from time proving to be just a consolation.
Inverness made three changes from the side that was defeated 1-0 by Rangers in midweek, with Liam Polworth, Carl Tremarco and Danny Williams making way for Ross Draper, Graeme Shinnie and Ryan Christie.
Caley Thistle were in control throughout the first-half, and began brightly with Gary Warren’s header from Greg Tansey’s free-kick brushing inches past the post, before Billy Mckay’s effort from a Graeme Shinnie cross was turned behind by Saints defender Steven Anderson.
Tansey came close with a couple of free-kick efforts from long-range, while Marley Watkins’ shot was blocked by Frazer Wright towards the end of a first-half that saw Saints produce virtually no attacking threat.
Inverness finally broke the deadlock on 61 minutes however, with a one-two between Marley Watkins and Aaron Doran releasing the former to drill low past Alan Mannus.
The Caley Jags made it a double blow for Saints just five minutes later, with Graeme Shinnie setting up Ryan Christie to place a low shot into the net from 20 yards.
St Johnstone pulled a goal back on 77 minutes, when Lee Croft’s delivery from the right was nodded home by Brian Graham.
However, John Hughes’ side held on to claim the three points that take them back to the league summit.
