Caley Thistle defender Josh Meekings is satisfied with his side’s performance at the back but now aims to play a bigger part in the Inverness attacking threat.
The 1-0 win against Dundee United on Saturday was Caley Jags’ seventh clean sheet in 12 games, with Meekings having played every match so far.
The 22-year-old has made 116 appearances for Inverness since joining from Ipswich in 2011, but has scored only once – in a 3-2 defeat by Aberdeen last month.
Meekings went close to doubling his tally against the Arabs on Saturday, hitting the post with a first-half header.
Inverness attacker Billy Mckay has failed to hit the target since the opening game of the season and Meekings is keen to play his part in alleviating the pressure on the Northern Irishman – in addition to carrying out defensve duties.
Centre half Meekings said: “I’ve said before I want to add goals to my game.
“It would have been nice to get my second goal for the club on Saturday but it wasn’t to be.
“However, if I’m getting into those situations more that’s all I can do.
“We are putting ourselves in there but if the delivery isn’t right it’s not to be. On Saturday we had a few chances from crosses and we looked dangerous.
“Unfortunately, it’s just not falling for Billy but his time will come and he’ll start getting the goals again.
“It’s positive that we are creating chances and that’s the main thing.
“We are also keeping it tight defensively which is a very good thing for us as a back four.
“We knew what a talent Nadir Ciftci is and it was important we kept him quiet on Saturday.
“It wasn’t just me and Gary but as a team we stopped the source by pressing Dundee United quickly. We did a bit of work on that in training, which stood us in good stead.”
With Caley Jags still unbeaten at home this season, Meekings believes Inverness are well on their way to making Caledonian Stadium an unhappy hunting ground for opposing sides.
He added: “It was a game we felt we could win. We always want to make it as difficult as we can for teams when they come here and I think we’ve done a good job of that.
“We’re very happy with how we’ve started. We’re looking to continue that and it’s not to stop now. We want to see how far we can go as a team.”
