Caley Thistle midfielder Nick Ross believes the Scottish Cup represents an opportunity for his side to erase the pain of last year’s League Cup final defeat to Aberdeen.
Inverness are in today’s fifth round draw having come from behind to draw 1-1 against St Mirren on Saturday with the replay tomorrow night.
Ross has already tasted cup final defeat, and is determined his side goes one better this season.
Ross said: “I think we’ve got a great chance, but a lot of other clubs will be looking at it the same way this year.
“We got to a final last year and we want to experience it again to try to get over the disappointment of losing.
“It was something we spoke about before the game. The manager was talking about how big an occasion last year’s final was and how we all want to go through it again.
“Having been put out of the League Cup by Rangers earlier in the season, this is our chance and we want to take it.”
Ross made his first start in the season in Paisley and the 23-year-old hopes he has done enough to retain his place in tomorrow’s replay despite the return of leading-scorer Marley Watkins and midfielder Greg Tansey from suspension.
He added: “It’s been a long time coming. I’ve had to be really patient because this was my first start since April.
“I had to keep working away and try to make the most of the chance I got. I was disappointed to be taken off but then I think that is the same for anyone when they are substituted.
“It is harder to complain about being out of the team when they are doing well, although I’ve tried.
“It’s been tough to get a chance because the team has been doing so well and been top of the league for most of the season. I can’t really moan about that.
“But I felt I’ve done well when I’ve come on, so hopefully I can give the manager more to think about. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.”
