Caley Thistle have lost successive Premiership matches but manager John Hughes is reluctant to make wholesale changes to his side.
Hughes replaced Marley Watkins and Danny Williams with Aaron Doran and Ryan Christie for Saturday’s 1-0 loss against St Johnstone, with both having been restricted to substitute appearances in previous weeks.
Inverness hope to return to winning ways against Aberdeen on Sunday, with the defeat against Saints having come just a week after a 4-0 thumping by Partick Thistle at the Caledonian Stadium.
Hughes credits continuity in his team selection as a significant factor in the Caley Jags’ fine first half of the campaign, and despite the past two results he is wary too many changes could disrupt progress.
Hughes said: “The most important thing is keeping everyone injury-free.
“We have to weigh up all the pros and cons. We’ve said many times before, it’s the consistency of selection that has played a big part in taking us where we are now.
“So we have to watch what we’re doing in terms of changing the team. Before you know it, you can be chopping and changing all over the place.
“The players on the bench deserve a chance, that’s for sure, but I have to be very careful how I do it. Too many changes and I might create problems.”
Inverness have occupied second place in the Premiership for much of this season, but dropped to fifth after their last two results.
Hughes remains determined Caley Jags will improve on their current position, which was where the Highlanders finished last season.
Hughes added: “We all have aspirations to go and do one better than last year, but we’re honest and we’re not going to win every game from now until the end of the season.
“It’s all down to character and who wants to lead from the front.
“The players take responsibility every day. They’re a great bunch.”
