Caley Thistle manager John Hughes has urged players coming to the end of their contracts to follow Greg Tansey’s lead and commit to the club.
Midfielder Tansey this week signed an extension to keep him at the club until 2017 but the futures of 10 players out of contract in the next six months remains unresolved.
The contracts of Graeme Shinnie, Billy Mckay, Josh Meekings, Marley Watkins, David Raven, Nick Ross, Liam Polworth, Danny Devine and Lewis Horner expire in the summer, while a decision must be made on the future of forward Ibra Sekajja in the coming days.
Hughes says there will be no hard feelings if players decide their future lies elsewhere, but feels they would all benefit from prolonging their stay with the Caley Jags.
Hughes said: “It’s simple, if they see somewhere else as their future there’s nothing we can do about it. But we’re desperate to keep them.
“There’s been speculation around one or two but we’re trying to get these guys tied up. I’ve been in that situation before myself and I can understand it.
“It’s a time in the season where you think it doesn’t play on your mind but I think it does. It’s in the back of your mind, it’s your future and everyone is looking for that security.
“Hopefully, that will inspire them to go and sign. But everyone to their own, if they go away and double or treble their money then fantastic. They’ll go away with our best wishes for what they’ve done at this club. There will be no fall-out or anything like that, we all know it’s part and parcel of football.
“It’s a club with a young bunch of boys. You need to learn your trade first and I think a lot of these guys here have still got another year still to go to learn their trade. Maybe even longer than that.
“It means when you do make that move, you’re going to be an accomplished professional knowing the fundamentals of football.”
No decision has yet been made on the future of former Crystal Palace attacker Sekajja, whose contract expires this week.
The Ugandan has made just four substitute appearances since signing in October and Hughes added: “As long as we keep everyone injury free we’re OK.
“That’s possibly where it’s been a bit hard going on Ibra. Seeing Billy Mckay’s goal, I never want to take him off because he’s a sniffer. He wants to go over the top and so does Marley.
“We’ve got Nick Ross and Aaron Doran fighting for those places up top. Because we’ve been free of injury, Ibra’s never had that opportunity to get a run of games in the team.
“We have to be careful in what we’re doing, so we’re not just bringing in people just to make up he numbers. We have to be fair with the players as well, so we have to sit down and look at that.”
