Caley Thistle defender Carl Tremarco reckons opponents St Johnstone gave up after 70 minutes of last night’s 2-0 Premiership victory for the Highlanders.
First-half goals from Billy Mckay and Marley Watkins earned Inverness a deserved three points at the Caledonian Stadium, with the result moving John Hughes side within three points of leaders Aberdeen.
Relishing the chance to get forward from his left back position, Tremarco provided the assist for Watkins’ goal, and the 29-year-old was delighted by all parts of his side’s performance.
The Liverpool-born defender reckons confidence is flowing, with Inverness starting 2015 in impeccable fashion with four straight wins.
Tremarco said: “I think it showed that St Johnstone gave up after 70 minutes, they just couldn’t get the ball and we kept creating chances. It was pleasing to be a part of, and I’m sure the supporters appreciated it.
“After a shaky start we settled down and got used to the pitch. I don’t think they created any chances to cause us problems. It was satisfying to get a win, we were disappointed we couldn’t score more goals though.”
Caley Thistle’s pay what you can plan for supporters produced an attendance of 3,161, and Tremarco felt a bigger crowd helped his side overcome Saints on a cold January night.
Tremarco added: “We understand it’s January, it’s just after Christmas and money’s maybe a bit low.
“What the club did was a good idea and I think it showed in the crowd.
They were buoyant, they were bouncing and enjoyed the game. I’m just pleased we put a performance on for them.”
