Midfielder Danny Williams is determined to inspire Caley Thistle into European football for the first time and sees no reason why his club cannot reach its goal.
John Hughes’ side claimed their fifth win on the spin with a 2-0 victory against Hamilton Accies on Saturday thanks to a Grant Gillespie own goal and a late Nick Ross second.
Inverness’ flawless run since the start of the year has moved them only a point behind second-placed Aberdeen and Williams believes his side can finish in the top three.
He said: “It’s been a perfect start to 2015 for us. The players are full of confidence and we are going into each game thinking we can win and push all the way for a European spot.
“Next week is an opportunity to go ahead of Aberdeen while they are involved in the League Cup and that’s another good incentive to win the game against Ross County.
“But getting into European competition would be a great achievement for the club and that we are pushing for it again this season is brilliant for us.”
Caley Thistle are the form team in the Scottish Premiership but much of the recent attention in the league has focused on whether or not Aberdeen can sustain a title challenge with favourites Celtic.
Inverness are only one point behind the Dons but former Kendal Town midfielder Williams is quite content to see others enjoy the spotlight.
The Englishman said: “It suits us to fly under the radar so we are happy to let other teams get the attention. We just want to keep playing our football, keep passing and trying to win every game we go into.
“I don’t really know why we don’t get more attention, but we’re not fussed about it and are happy to be able to just get on with it. Maybe that kind of talk can put pressure on a team and they become expected to win every time, but we can only concentrate on ourselves and we’re happy to be quietly getting on with our business.”
Next up for the Caley Jags is a home match against bottom of the league Ross County but Williams is taking nothing for granted against their rivals.
He added: “They are always good games against Ross County but we are full of confidence after the start we have made to the year so hopefully we can get the three points again and put in another good performance for the supporters.
“These are all tricky games, regardless of where Ross County are in the league just now, but as long as we are playing well that’s most the important thing for us.”
