John Hughes confirms Caley Thistle looking to sign duo

Caley Thistle manager John Hughes hopes to sign two of his three trialists as he narrows his search for Billy Mckay’s successor.

Former Middlesbrough forward Tarmo Kink, 29, has impressed in his weeklong trial at Caley Stadium, while Dutchman Prince Rajcomar, 29, has also shown up well.

Serb attacker Marko Vukanovic, 25, is behind the other two in terms of fitness but the Inverness manager is not ruling any of the three players out at this stage.

He said: “Tarmo will spend some more time with us before we make a decision but it has gone well. Prince was different class in terms of fitting right in with the players. He showed great enthusiasm and was technically very good. Marko was slightly behind in terms of fitness but we haven’t ruled anyone out at this stage.”

Hughes has expressed his admiration for his players’ ability to adapt following the sale of Mckay to Wigan last month but believes the chance to strengthen the squad would be welcomed in the dressing-room.

He said: “Aaron Doran is back training and James Vincent is due to return tomorrow which gives us attacking options but we need numbers and the players would welcome some fresh faces to give them that fresh impetus and drive for the rest of the season.

“But it has to be the right guy. We need players who can come in here and hit the ground running and when we bring a guy in to train I need him to raise the standard and inspire the players who are here and get them excited about the quality we are trying to bring to the club.

“All credit to the trialists for doing that as they have worked hard. We’ll sit down with them and see if it’s possible to get some of them in.”

While Inverness are focusing on strengthening their squad their opponents tomorrow, Motherwell, have also been active in the transfer market with former Well and Celtic attacker Scott McDonald agreeing a return to Fir Park.

The 31-year-old Australian was released by Millwall at the end of last month and Well manager Ian Baraclough hopes to have the attacker in his squad for the visit of Caley Jags tomorrow.

Hughes is pleased to see McDonald join other players in returning to Scottish football in recent weeks.

He said: “It’s good to have guys like Paul Dixon and Ryan McGowan back in Scotland playing their football and to have Scott McDonald back in our league will be good too as he is a quality player.

“He’s a player who’s had a great career, including in Scotland before Middlesborough. I really welcome him back with open arms because it is exciting.

“Motherwell is probably the right fit for him. It might give them the impetus they need.”
